Holy Week Services and Events

April 5 - Palm Sunday – Beginning with the excitement of a kingly arrival, and ending with the solemn reality of Holy Week, Palm Sunday takes us on a holy journey. Traditional form worship is at 8:30 and 11:00 AM in the sanctuary. Contemporary (ABC) form worship is at 8:30 and 11:00 AM in Nagle Hall. Our newly instructed young people will receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion for the first time.

April 9 – Maundy Thursday - Service of Holy Communion (7:00 PM only)
This night recalls the Passover experience when the children of Israel fled Egypt. We remember the meal Jesus ate with his disciples just before his arrest. We note Jesus’ commandment (mandatum) that we should love others as he has loved us. Pastor Nelson preaches. Our 5th graders will receive Bibles as we in the congregation fulfill our baptismal promise. And we close with the dramatic Baring of the Altar. Note that there will NOT be a morning worship service on Maundy Thursday.

There will be childcare provided for the Maundy Thursday service.

April 10 – Good Friday - A Time for Reflection and Prayer (Noon to 3:00 PM) Tenebrae Service (7:00 PM only)
For Christians, this is the most solemn day of the year – the day Jesus died on the cross. Our main worship space is open from noon to 3:00 PM, the hours Jesus hung on the cross. You’re invited to be here for a few moments or for a longer time. A printed devotional sheet is available for all who are present.

Our 7:00 PM Good Friday worship form is Tenebrae, the gradual dimming of our worship space’s light until we are in total darkness. Danielle Kosanovich preaches. So we look forward to the glorious light of Easter. Note that there will NOT be a morning worship service on Good Friday, but rather that the Sanctuary is open for reflection and prayer.

April 12 - Easter - The worship opportunities for Easter are:

At 7:00 AM in our courtyard, we use a simple format of songs and the read and preached Word. Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather during this half-hour service. Danielle Kosanovich preaches.

At 8:30 and 11:00 AM traditional-form worship is held in the nave. The senior choir sings special music. We add all the portions of setting one to our liturgy. The Sacrament of Holy Communion is administered. Pastor Ray preaches.

At 8:30 and 11:00 AM ABC (Affirm, Be…Come and Celebrate) contemporary-form worship is held in Nagle Hall. The ABC musicians lead us in greeting the risen Son who gives life. The Sacrament of Holy Communion is administered. Pastor Brooks preaches.

Easter Breakfast – From 9:30 – 10:30 AM a continental breakfast will be served in the narthex. The menu includes sausage biscuits, bagels and cream cheese, muffins, pastries, fruit, juice and coffee. Thanks to the Parish Life Committee for coordinating the effort. Note there is no Sunday Church School on Easter Sunday

Annual Easter Egg Hunt!
Two year olds through 3rd graders meet in room 210 during the Easter Sunday School hour. We will watch an Easter video from 9:30 – 10:15 AM, then head out to the lawn beside the west fellowship hall for the Easter Egg Hunt, which starts promptly at 10:15 and finishes at 10:45 AM. Don’t forget to bring a basket!
